Remember the redness that Cosette gets around her mouth after eating oatmeal? I think I've discovered the cause.
Henri recently decided that he wanted to help me in the morning by adding cinnamon to Cosette's oatmeal while she was eating it. He put WAY too much in, and when Cosette took a bite, she began to scream and cry. The area surrounding her mouth and her cheeks turned bright red. It eventually faded after about 15 minutes.
The next day I gave her oatmeal, and I didn't add the dash of cinnamon that I usually do. And do you know what? No redness!
Any experience with this? It doesn't look like an allergic reaction. Just a sensitivity?

No experience with it, but people are sensitive to any number of things, and I would imagine that cinnamon, being Indian tree bark, could certainly induce an allergy. I have a similar reaction to Cosette's when I cut tomatoes - the acid gives me that redness and some itching, but it goes away shortly. Anything is possible! I'm so glad you figured this out! Moms are so smart ;)
Yeah! Cinnamon-free oatmeal is easy enough and great that you don't have to give up such a healthy food. When I used chew cinnamon gum, it would burn patches on my tongue. Since cinnamon is a strong spice I wouldn't call this a allergic reaction, just a normal reaction for very sensitive little mouths and skin. Think the reaction people get when they eat jalapeno peppers.
yep. my kiddos reacted to cinnamon on their applesauce when they were little. makes sense. way to go, inspector.
