Y.E.S.

Warning: This post is gross.

The title stands for Cosette's

Yucky Ear Syndrome

A thick yellow discharge is flowing from Cosette's left ear this evening. After doing some research, I think that means that she has an ear infection and her ear drum has burst. Her ear has been red & crusty & a little drippy all day, but it's yuckier tonight. I thought her fussiness had to do with her cutting one molar 2 weeks ago and another one this week.

She's happy now though with few other symptoms other than a red, sore ear with lots of yellow goop. From what I've read, it seems that we should see a doctor during normal hours, and it's not an emergency.

I hate it when illnesses come upon the kids on a Friday night. That means we have to decide about whether to wait until Monday to head to the doctor or consider something sooner. Since it's late and she isn't acting sick, we will wait for now. Maybe I'll call a nurse line tomorrow if it gets worse. Oh decisions...

Any experiences with ear discharge?

Y.E.S.! That totally happened to Caleb as well. Probably when he was right about Cosette's age...

He gave us no real "signs" of an ear infection until that night when he was up for a lot of the night in pain. Then, we noticed the ear discharge. I took him in the next morning (and sure enough his ear drum had burst) and got him on antibiotics...

Poor Cosette...I hope that she is able to sleep well tonight!! Yes, those Friday night/weekend sicknesses are no fun!!! :-( Hang in there!

Poor Cosette! First the bump, then the teeth, now the ear. I hope you sleep well and feel better soon.

Yep. Same here with one of my girls, can't remember which one. We've always done warmed up olive oil (warm it up in a small bowl, placed inside a bigger bowl full of hot water), and then dropper it in the ear. That seems to help with the pain, and certainly if it's burst, it would help. poor sweetie. the good news is it probably doesn't hurt her too much now that the pressure is released :)

I had my ear drum burst when I was about 13 and it was terrible. The pain and the drainage coming from my ear. My mom took me to the doctors and he put me on a med that helped. The only gross thing about my ear drum bursting was that I had to change the cotton ball about every 10 minutes otherwise, I would have drainage everywhere. No sleep for me the first night.
